Wonky Ankle => Wonder Cure!

WONKY ANKLE => WONDER CURE!

An ankle sprain occurs when there is significant injury to the ligaments that surround and connect the bones of the leg to the foot. The injury commonly occcurs when you accidentaly twist or turn your ankle inappropriately.Lateral ankle sprains are most common with the anterior talofibular and the tibiofibular ligaments being injured.
If the ankle does not receive the proper treatment and rehabilitation,it is very likely that sprains recur andchronic ankle instability becomes a problem. The result of untreated ankle instability is often cartilage deterioration and degenerative arthritis with an increased chance of surgery as an end result.

SYMPTOMS
Common symptoms associated with chronic ankle instability include pain, swelling ,giving way sensation in ankle, increased range of motion from lax ligaments or reduced range, and recurring sprains.

WHY ANKLE SURGERIES DONT WORK

The surgeries commonly used with severely degenerated ankles are Ankle Fusion and ankle replacement, which  often results in long rehab periods, severe post-operative pain and possible loss of mobility and function in the ankle. In many cases patients still complain of pain after surgery .Surgery does always pose the risk of complications.

WHAT DOES WORK FOR ANKLE INSTABILITY?

Prolotherapy works wonderfully well to treat conditions where there is instability.Prolotherapy injections into the ankle work to create an inflammatory response in the ligaments which in turn stimulates healing and repair  in the soft tissue. The ligament produced after prolo is stronger and thicker making it the ideal tool to treat ankle instability. To read more about Prolo and ankle injuries click here.

Physiotherapy aims to firstly treat and manage symptoms of swelling, pain and stiffness and secondly to rehabilitate through proprioceptive, balance and strength training.
Ozone

Prolozone is the injecting of healing ozone and nutrients into damaged ligaments, tendons and cartilage;working to improve oxygen utilization in these tissues, allowing it to heal and regain full function.

Brain-Fog,Head-pain might be Barre’Leiou Syndrome

Written by Regenerative Health on . Posted in Treatment Discussions

Brain-Fog,Head-Pain Could be BARRE’-LIEOU SYNDROME:

Barre’-Leiou is a rare condition where trauma(such as impingement of vertebrae or arthritis), to the sympathetic nerves located in the spinal area of the neck results in a variety of neurological symptoms. This condition was named and discovered by a French neurologist and Chinese physician, who each independently discovered a variety of similar symptoms thought to be due to a dysfunction in the posterior cervical sympathetic nervous system(which is a group of nerves located in the vertebrae in the neck).

COMMON SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:
Some of the common symptoms include:
Headaches,Neck pain,Ear pain,Eye pain,Facial pain,Shoulder pain,Vertigo,Tinnitus(Ringing in ears),Sinus congestion,Tearing of the eyes,Blurred vision,Nausea ,Vomiting,Vasomotor disturbances of the face,Memory impairment, Fatigue,Muscle weakness,Voice hoarseness,Pins and needles sensation in hands and fingers,Facial numbness and swelling of the face

CAUSES:
Barre’ Leiou Syndrome is caused by vertebral instability and this affects the functioning of nerves located in the cervical vertebrae.Vertebral instability occurs because the ligaments and tendons that support the neck become weakened or injured, similar to what occurs in the case of Whiplash injuries.
The symptoms are also precipitated by poor posture particularly in the seated position where a forward head posture is adopted. This further stretches and weakens cervical ligaments over time.

PROLOTHERAPY IS THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION:

The best solution to any problem is always to correct the source which is exactly what prolo does and exactly why it is so successful in treating this condition.Prolotherapy corrects the alignment of the vertebrae by stabilising the surrounding ligaments and tendons so they no longer pinch the sympathetic nerves. As the sympathetic nervous system begins to function correctly, the associated symptoms slowly subside.
Prolotherapy
is an injection therapy that stimulates the body’s natural-occuring healing processes to produce more collagen within joint ligaments, providing increased stability, decreased pain and improved function.

Physiotherapy aims at managing associated symptoms of pain, stiffness, swelling, weakness and muscle spasm with a range of treatments including dry needling, massage, spinal mobilisation, electrotherapy modalities and most importantly posture correction and spinal alignment through rehabilitation.
Prolozone

Prolozone is the injecting of healing nutrients and ozone in and around ligaments, tendons and cartiliage of injured or degenerated joints, thereby improving oxygen utilisation in the localised area of the damaged connective tissue and allowing it to heal and regain full function. The injected ozone increases blood supply and also stimulates the deposition of fibroblasts and chondroblasts which strengthen and tighten the injured area, thereby stabilising the joint and removing the cause of pain associated with Barre’ Lieou.

Prolo your TMD Pain away!

PROLO YOUR TMD PAIN AWAY!

The Temporal mandibular joint is a hinge joint that connects your jaw to the temporal bone of your skull.Problems with your jaw and the muscles in your face that control it are known as temporo- mandibular disorders.

Here at Regenerative health TMD is one of the conditions we see in great abundance and one which we have had great success in treating. It is an area in which Dr Stavrou has immense experience and expertise in as this is a subject that he regularly lectures post-grad physio students on.

CAUSES OF TMD:

TMD is commonly caused by bruxism (teeth grinding) ,clenching, bracing (placing teeth together without grinding), tooth malocclusion, overbite, mouth breathing and poor posture.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Symptoms of TMD include headaches, eyepain, bloodshot eyes, fuzzy vision, sensititvity to light, jaw clicking, popping ,cheekpain, restricted jaw mobility, teeth grinding , clenching, tooth pain, neck stiffness, neck pain, ear pain, ringing of ears, dizziness and vertigo.Because there are such a variety of symptoms associated with TMD-many cases are often misdiagnosed or incorrectly treated.

PROLOTHERAPY AS THE ANSWER

Considering that the chronic pain associated with TMD is commonly due to TMJ ligament laxity, the ideal approach is to strengthen the weakened ligament with Prolotherapy.Prolotherapy is a safe ,effective natural medicine treatment for repairing tendon, ligament and cartilage damage.

Prolotherapy involves inducing a mild inflammatoty reaction in the weakened ligaments and cartilage, thereby stimulating healing and repair.Prolotherapy offers the most curative resultsin traeting TMD pain because it eliminates the source of the pain.More impressively the strengthening of tissues and the relief of pain produced by Prolotherapy is permanent.

Physiotherapy assists in treating TMD by improving posture and body alignment, releasing tight musulature with myofascial release techniques, dry needling and stretching.Physio also assists with stress management.
Prolozone

Prolozone is a technique that combines the principles of neural therapy, Prolotherapy, and ozone therapy. It involves injecting combinations of procaine, anti-inflammatory medications, homeopathics, vitamins, minerals, proliferatives, and ozone/oxygen gas into degenerated or injured joints, and into areas of pain. It is very successful in treating TMD as it treats the underlying cause of the problem which is most likely instability.

Spinal Stenosis-We have a solution!

Written by Regenerative Health on . Posted in Treatment Discussions

SPINAL STENOSIS: WE HAVE A      SOLUTION!

Spinal stenosis occcurs when the space around the spinal cord narrows, commonly because of degenerative changes in the spine. This puts pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots and commonly results in leg pain, numbness or weakness.

COMMON SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

*Back pain
*Burning pain in the buttocks or legs
*Numbness or tingling in buttocks or legs
*Weakness in legs
*Pain increasing with walking and commonly decreased leaning forward or sitting.

The most common surgery recommended for spinal stenosis is a decompressive Laminectomy or spinal fusion.Risks of surgery include increased chance of further long term  degeneration, immobility and reduced function post operatively as well post operative pain.Considering the fact that many people continue to have pain even after having surgery-makes it seem like a non-viable option!
Well there is an alternative which eliminates all these risks-Prolotherapy!

PROLOTHERAPY FOR SPINAL STENOSIS:

The root cause of degenerative Spinal Arthritis is almost always ligament  laxity and instability. The vertebrae are supported by numerous ligaments and when they are weakened by aging or injury, this increases the pressure on the vertebral disks.
Prolotherapy administered to this area works to resolve pain and muscle spasm because it corrects the etiology of the problem. Prolotherapy is a regenerative injection therapy that is used to repair incomplete healing of the ligaments and tendons.
Prolotherapy aims to reduce pain, improve strength, and improve overall joint mobility. Prolotherapy stabilises the joint and thereby reduces muscle spasm as the muscle no longer needs to work to create stability.

REPAIR YOUR ROTATOR CUFF!!
Wishing all our Regenerative Health followers a Happy and healthy 2015!
Rotator Cuff Injuries are a common cause of pain and disability among adults, with research showing close to  2 million people in the U.S going to their doctors because of Rotator Cuff Injuries in 2008.The Rotator Cuff consists of 4 muscles which work to  create movement and stability in the the shoulder   Three conditions that affect the Rotator Cuff are Tendonitis,Impingement and Rotator cuff Tears.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:
* Pain triggered by raising or lowering the arm * Pain at rest and at night particularly if lying on the affected side. * Crepitus or cracking sensation when moving your shoulder in certain positions. * Loss of mobility and strength in the affected arm. * Pain and swelling in the front or side of the arm. * Pain when reaching behind your back.
CONVENTIONAL TREATMENT :
Conventional Treatment includes the use of analgesic painkillers,non-steroidal anti-inflammatories,physiotherapy,rest,steroid injections and in the case of severe or complete tears surgery.
PROLOTHERAPY AS THE ALTERNATIVE:
Instead of boosting the degenerative process, as is possible with some of the modern medicine approaches. Prolotherapy strengthens the ligaments and the tendinous insertions of the rotator cuff and deltoid. This combined with the gradual re-strengthening of the rotator cuff muscles promises an excellent chance for a full recovery and full performance. In the event that surgery is truly necessary because a rotator cuff tear has become large enough to produce profound weakness in the shoulder, Prolotherapy is an excellent post-operative treatment to improve tissue strength and overall recovery.Click here to read more about Dr Hauser’s ideas on Prolo and the Rotator Cuff.
Comprehensive Prolotherapy for rotator cuff injury involves multiple injections of dextrose-based solution to the various ligament and tendon attachments around the shoulder, as well as inside the joint. Prolotherapy to all of the adjacent structures stimulates a natural inflammatory response in the weakened rotator cuff tissues. This inflammatory reaction draws immune cells to the area to regenerate the injured tissues. The increase in blood flow and regenerative cells is the body’s natural healing response. The body also responds by depositing collagen at the site of injury, strengthening the rotator cuff tendons that once were weak.
